Any chance of getting a summer internship with a 2:2 first year result?

Hi there,

I study Economics at a top uni and I have just started the 2nd year of my course. Right now I am thinking of applying for 2018 investment banking/equity research summer internship. However, I only got a 2:2 (57%) in my first year. I don't really have any hope of getting into a bulge bracket bank, but do I stand a chance with those smaller banks or some asset management firms? The career I seek focuses on equity research.

Also, it's worth to mention that my mother was diagnosed cancer last December, and now she has been fully cured. I don't want to talk about if the emotional distress did any bad on my academic performance or not in here, but are those banks going to buy my story if I mention it? (I only failed one module which dragged my whole result down quite a bit)

Thank you so much

Hey, I'm in the same position, do you have any updates or tips of which internships to apply to and if you found one yourself?
