How do I remove an old friend without creating an enemy?

she was with me for 12 years
good at first
went to same school
drifted apart
i think she is a tad exploitative and dodgy around property

Why would she be an enemy if you removed her? Unless she's an axe murderer, she won't even care that you removed her. You drifted apart, it really isn't that deep.
If you’ve drifted apart then just continue to drift, so don’t make an effort with her, I’m not saying ignore her just don’t meet up outside of school etc.
