I think I've been waiting for two weeks today. Not that long I suppose. That said, CC, A&O and Freshfields all got back to me within two weeks so that seems to be the standard time frame. How long have you been waiting?

I am just wondering where else people have applied and are still waiting? I applied to SJ Berwin at the end of October and still yet to have heard a thing??!! anyone else applied there? sorry to gatecrash this thread...

i recently applied for the sj berwin easter scheme and was told that they only start to consider applications once the deadline has passed in january.

I wish there was some way of knowing what each firm's policy is on when they start looking at applications. If they don't start considering applications until after the deadlines then it doesn't really make that much sense to do those applications first. I'd much rather prioritise those firms that have a rolling application process where they consider each application as and when it comes in. I know that some firms tell you what they do but most don't.

A&O, CC and BLP have all been quick getting back to me. Haven't heard anything back from a couple of others.

some firm's i've literally called up and asked when they start considering applications. one firm (a few weeks ago) said that they wouldn't get round to reviewing TC applications for a few weeks so i should definitely spend time getting it perfect before submitting.

but yes, it's not practical to call up every firm and ask, both for us and for them.

I agree, it seems every firm has a completely different policy. A few firms are explicit that you should apply asap but others give no indication of their methodology.

I submitted one on a Friday at 9:30pm, had a call back on Monday morning asking to go for an interview the next day on Tuesday.

Needless to say, I asked politely for it to be delayed!

Pleased to report I have been invited for an interview at Links.

Slaughter and May aren't inviting people to interview until January (for the summer scheme; there are no interviews for the easter scheme)

Out of curiosity when did you sumbit your application? Trying to get an idea of how long I should expect to wait to hear back from them....then again I'm guessing quite a while now given that they will be off for christmas I assume.

It was mid-October. I know they've been pretty overworked for some reason this year - they've had to cancel a few events (my hunch is someone must be sick / on maternity). Plus Links do actually seem to read the forms based on their recruitment decisions (good job too, given how long it takes to do!)

Just did the interview for Linklaters Summer Scheme- and now I am absolutely nervous about the results...does anyone know when the results are normally released? Its been two days...I don't know... *crosses fingers....

Anyone have any tibs on whether vacation scheme dates can be adjusted? eg. if you want a 3 week scheme to be reduced by three days or something  ...uh...can another vacation scheme placement be the reason? *guilty look

i'm going to go with no

They're not going to be impressed by you asking to have the VS reduced. You'll really be shooting yourself in the foot as far as getting a TC there is concerned.

If you have 5+ Summer Schemes, I'm sure there must be at least two that don't clash. If they all clash, then accept your first choice firm, and then contact the other firms as quickly as you can to see if you can be switched to another intake.

I find that going onto online forums to boast about my offers really helps me with organisational tasks like this. Maybe you could try that?

I'm sorry if you took my message wrongly 0_0 I was genuinely wondering about that, and have friends who shared with me their worries about fitting schedules in too. Maybe its a strange view, but I somehow want to learn as much as I can during the summer, and less so just to get that training contract at the end...but more of the various practice areas and hands-on work itself.

Linklaters are normally very quick if they want to make you an offer.

Wait until you find out if you've been accepted. If you have, then you have three options:

1) Do the Linkies scheme in full and miss the start of the other scheme (not ideal)
2) Tell Links up front that you have another scheme you want to attend which will mean that you have to miss the end of theirs. Again, not ideal but not as catastrophic as some other posters would have you believe.
3) Tell Links that you have another commitment (but don't specify that its a work placement) which means you'll miss the end of their scheme. Doesn't risk Links getting annoyed with you, but there is the risk that you haven't told them the whole truth and that might come home to bite you.

If I was you, I would go with option 2. If they like you enough to give you a vac scheme place they'll know you're likely to have other schemes lined up.
There's a fourth option which I guy I know plumped for last summer when he realised that that two of his vac schemes overlapped by a week. He called in sick for the final three days of the first scheme and the first two days of the second.. And just hoped that no-one recognised him in the mornings at Moorgate tube station.. :p:

  The last idea's so funny...:p: In the end I just asked them whether I could adjust the dates without giving a reason...hope they are nice and allow me to do so...*crosses fingers
