(b)In this question you will be assessed on using good English, organising
information clearly and using specialist terms where appropriate.
The Earth’s surface has changed in the last 250 million years.
In 1912, Alfred Wegener observed that:
    • the shapes of the coastlines of Africa and South America fitted together
    • Paris and Washington were moving apart by a few centimetres each year.
Wegener suggested that the Earth’s surface had changed as shown in Figure 2.
(Figure 2 shows a diagram of what the continents look like, specifically South America and Africa, if they were connected together. This is headed 250 million years ago. It then shows the continents in present day)
The tectonic plate theory is now used to explain the processes that caused the changes.
Describe the changes shown in Figure 2 and describe the processes that caused these changes.

Really stuck and I don't understand how C1 Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table link to tectonic plates?? Would be greatly appreciated if someone could help out!

You need to talk about continental drift and how the South American and African plates are moving away from each other due to the convection currents within the earths mantle

I'm highly doubtful this question has any relation to atomic structure and the periodic table, I do recall doing tectonic plates in C1 when I did C1 a few years ago, your teacher might've just got the topic questions a bit messed up if they gave this question to you expecting it to be on atomic structure and the periodic table.

Thanks for the answer! Should be able to do it now!

Yeah, I looked at it and so did some of the others in my class and we were just so confused and didn't see the relation. Thanks again!
