Assess the importance of plate tectonic theory in helping to understand the nature and causes of volcanic activity.

If anyone has any ideas about how to do this I would love to know.
Thanks!

You should know about the basic plate tectonic theory; there are different types of plate boundaries which can cause different types of volcanic activity. I suggest you should break it down and look at each separate one, and then look more closely at the volcanic activity that's caused. Since the question is about assessing the importance, it might be nice to briefly drop in a few case examples and discuss whether the plate tectonic theory is a perfect explanation every time for every type of volcanic activity.
