Does a Latin GCSE count as a MFL?

I was thinking of taking latin as a language at GCSE but i wasn't sure if it counted as a language.
Ancient Language
No. MFL stands for a Modern Foreign Language, Latin isn't modern nor is it really 'foreign'; its an ancient language that is basically a devolved version of a lot of European dialects.

It counts as a language - thats what it is - but not as an 'MFL'.
