    Woo thanks!!

Is anyone here doing MOG this year? Also does anyone know the rough estimates for the thresholds usually (as I know the 2016 thresholds were unusually low)

    AHHHHHH!
Yep, your guess was correct, I am (unfortunately) entered in for the Senior Maths Challenge this year. I'm not sure what exactly I'm aiming for, at least a bronze would be nice, I got gold and silver in the Junior and Intermediate respectively, but it would also be cool to get a silver or gold at this thing, may require more preparation.

Speaking of, what are you all doing to prepare for it? I'm going to look at some papers from previous years, but is there anything else you would recommend I do?

Ah this is awesome - I'm doing the Senior Individual and Team challenges this year (as I did last year) and hoping to do an awful lot better - I didn't even get a bronze in the SMC last year How should we be preparing? I guess there are past challenges to look at and try but are there any ways to improve general technique?

I started SMC/BMO preparation not with SMC, but BMO1 papers about a year ago. I think it worked better than using SMC to prepare, because it's got me from not being able to answer any BMO1 problems to five or six BMO1 problems in each paper and sometimes IMO problems.

SMC in just over a month.
I have no idea how I will do in it. The more recent papers look more easier than the older ones but have higher boundaries. If 2017 turns out to be about as hard as 2014-2016, then hopefully I'll get into BMO1.

Recently I've only been using BMO1 for prep; I was hesitant to do that at first because I didn't know if I'd actually be able to do the questions, but the first questions especially are quite accessible and you don't need to know much theory. I did do an SMC paper over the summer (I think it was 2016) and marked it and got 101 or something, which was annoying but I didn't sit down and do it in timed conditions, I did random questions intermittently. I find BMO more fun so I'm probably going to stick to that, even if I don't end up qualifying

I've never even looked at a BMO paper so I have no idea how I'd take to them I think my issue with the UKMT problems is just how different they are to what I'm used to, so hopefully with some practice I'll improve!

You know that you can enter as a 'discretionary candidate' right?

Also thanks for the thread creation and the tag .

I feel like I tag you in every thread I make

If I don't qualify, I don't know if I want to enter anyway...maybe I will if I get like 1 mark below the threshold, but if I'm far off, I probably won't.
