Well, depends on the course and the uni. Statistically, if you went to Russel Group/1994 Group institution, you would possibly be deemed more "employable" than say someone who went to a uni that was in the bottom percentile. However, you must consider that there are a variety of factors that contribute to you being about to get a job.

Depends how average, over time I have realised that having experience and other skills to talk about in interviews will help out a lot more than your degree.

Obviously depends on the individual.
But if I was going to university and spending all that money from a cost/benefit perspective I'd look to maximise the opportunity by going to the best university possible
