    Hi,

I completed the first year of a uni course last year, but now i've started Year 2 it's proving that it really isn't the one for me. My uni will allow me to swap to the course I want to do, but I have to do Year 1 again.

Is this ok with Student Finance?

    Thanks!

    Hi KitJP,

If your university transfer you from the beginning of this academic year, to year one of a different course, then we allow you one additional year of support, so you would receive funding to repeat this year.

If they transfer you mid course to start another course from year one with a different start date eg a January start then that would count this as a multi academic year.

Year one you will receive a maintenance loan only unless you can provide evidence of extenuating circumstances, also known your Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR)

If you could not complete any of your previous academic years due to CPR,
once your transfer is updated, send evidence on headed paper written by a professional person who was aware of the situation, explaining the reason, what happened, when it happened and how it affected your studies or reason withdrew.

Send the evidence with a cover letter and customer reference number, this will be reviewed on a case by case basis by an assessor. If accepted this would mean an additional year of support will be awarded and you would have full support for the length of your new course.

    Thanks Rona
