So I have some checks going for a job in a bank as a customer service advisor and they said they are criminal checks and financial checks.

Would being in debt many years ago stop them from hiring me? It was a long time ago and its all settled. I have never been in debt since but I have once or twice gone into my overdraft by accident which I'm not supposed to as I don't have an overdraft :P I thought that happened to everyone though and I instantly paid more money in to overcome it as soon as I was aware it happened.

Would the debt thing stop them hiring me, was about 5 years ago, went to debt colletors but I sorted it...

Highly doubt it. They are looking for bankruptcies and current CCJs. Someone who owes a lot and is vulnerable to blackmail. As you say its been settled as well. You can check your credit file to see if theres an entry. They go after six years, but sometimes nothing is entered as they dont get ccj judgement.

Thanks, I don't owe anything now and I've been financially stable ever since.

One thing you can do for the future is check your credit reference file to see whats on there and if it isnt then you know you have a clean record.
