So I'm trying to order something on amazon for the first time in my life, and the item in question costs 32 dollars. In addition, there's a 14 dollar fee for international shipping. However, when I proceed to the checkout, amazon tells me to pay 85 dollars, which is almost double to what I should be paying!? Does anyone know why it does this and what I can do about it?

Could be tax? Tax isn't added until after you put your address in on amazon.com because of different taxes for different states unlike amazon.co.uk where there is the same tax regardless of where in the uk you live. Careful, you may also have to pay separate import tax when it gets to the uk.

If it looks like it's doubled in price, could you have accidentally changed the quantity?

Check the quantity, amazon gives a break down of item costs, taxes, discounts and shipping on the billing page.

Also you’ll probably save a lot more with a prime trial and using amazon UK. With prime you can get stuff imported at no extra cost sometimes which is quite cool, it just depends on the item in question but if you’re lucky it’ll be on the UK store

Thank you guys for replying! The item I want to buy is not available on UK amazon sadly, so I guess I'll just suck it up and come up with a different birthday present for my friend rip.

    Import tax most likely

I think you can avoid it if the item costs less than about £15

but otherwise they slap you with it and it usually makes the purchase not worth it...........
