I am looking to do a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design which is level 3/4, if I am correct I understand I can possibly get a Advanced Learner Loan as I am 19+. However I had started a previous degree and withdrawn as I want to do a BA in Art instead, so I have already "used up" a year of my funding. I wanted to know whether doing a Art Foundation diploma will count as previous education when I apply for a student loan when I start the BA afterwards, if it does I will only have 2 years of funding for a 3 year degree so would have to fund the first year myself. However I didn't think the diploma would count as it is not higher education?

    Hi AmberBernice,

You can be confident that only previous study at the higher education level may be considered when assessing a student's entitlement to finance. This will depend on whether they studied full-time or part-time and if they received a qualification.

    Thanks Rona
