So basically about 6 months ago my best friend started a relationship with a girl for the first time in his life. I never personally liked this girl, in the nicest terms possible, she "couldn't stay in one place" (translation: pretty big slut). I warned him about her but he was having none of it. He had a good time, and it turned intimate very quickly. After a month, however, she left him for another guy, as I warned him she would. For half a year, he's been unable to let her go, constantly coming up with new ideas to win her back, despite her being happy in her new relationship. I've suggested he go see a doctor as he has become quite depressed since she left him, but he refuses to as he thinks it will negatively impact his future careers if he is given/takes any form of prescription drugs. He hasn't been the same since and I basically need to make him get over her and be happy again. So what do I do?

You can't make someone get over someone. However, you can help take his mind off it. Take him for drinks and stuff he likes doing.

A similar thing happened to one of my friends he distracted himself and realised how much better off without the girl he was. I don't think your friend needs to see a doctor unless it gets serious to the point of suicidal thoughts and or actions. it took me a very long time to get over my 2 and a half year realtionship nearly a year to be precise. Heart break and stuff like this takes time. Especially if it's a first love or fling.

Going on medication should only really be used as a last resort as once you're on it I've heard things like anti depressants are hard to get off of.

Best thing to do is support your friend and reassure them. Be frank with them. It's going to be really **** for a long time but things 100% get better and will make them into a better person who will definitely learn from an upsetting experience.

Completely agree with Jack....94. Also It would help if he pursued some new activities like gymming, a particular sports a hobby. This will help to take his mind off the hurt and will also keep him preoccupied for all the free time now.

First relationship is always tough to get over but you can't really do much but help him talk it through and he will feel better with time
