I'm not studying it in class but I have read it and did enjoy it, though I wouldn't say it is one of my absolute favourites. The illustration of absurdist principles through Mersault's indifference and irrationality, and society's futile attempts to superimpose meaning onto his actions, is interesting albeit not entirely convincing. The main problem I have is that the book falls midway between a novel and a treatise on existentialism, and at points I feel that it cannot be either to the fullest, though that owes more to the difficulty of writing philosophical treatises as novels than anything else.
