Is politics and international relations more respected than a standard politics degree? If so, how much more?

It really depends on the University in this respect, the title is fairly immaterial.

There's no difference in respectability - a lot of 'politics' degrees contain IR modules (e.g. History & Politics at Cambridge), they just don't put it in the name.

At almost all universities there is a joint Politics and IR department anyway, so they are effectively the same subject.

International relations is more specialized, with a specific interest in foreign affairs.

A politics course contains a broader overview of political spectrum and theory, with more of a focus on government policy.

I find international relations more interesting personally, but an understanding of both is crucial to do well in politics.

Both pretty respectable really. A large amount of the time, a person would not take a single "politics" course, and it would be joint with perhaps philosophy and economics, which provides other skills that contribute towards a successful career in politics. There are courses that do have joint politics and international relations...perhaps you should look into that?
