i've heard that it's free on unifrog and you don't need the certificate at proof, it's pointless as the uni will still know that you have done a MOOC.

I'm considering doing a MOOC in medicinal chem to add to my personal statement/ further my knowledge in the field I want to work in. However, it'll cost about £70 - is it worth paying for the certificate? In terms of increasing my chances of getting a place at uni?

why not look for a free one like MIT OCW or similar.

answering your question, yes it is worth it because you will really stand out in your application to uni
So, in reference to the above: it's worth it if you're interested in the course, have a suitable background, and believe you will benefit from it intellectually. It is not worth it just to get CV/PS "fodder". In either case it's probably not worth paying to have it certificated as it's a fairly meaningless piece of paper - you get the experience whether you get the paper or not, so you can still discuss what you learned and your experience of learning in such a format without it.
