I study in London Monday - Wednesday but get homesick so was thinking about traveling back to Suffolk Wednesday night - Sunday. Was wondering if anyone does/ has tried this before and how it worked out? Thanks!

Never done this before but you need to consider all the factors - the cost of travelling between uni and home, the time and energy it'll use up, if you'll be able to concentrate or get any work done back home, how you'll socialise with your flatmates/people on your course if you're at home most of the time, what happens if there's an emergency and you need to see a tutor or lecturer ASAP etc etc

I feel like university is the best way for young people to mature and begin living independently, although it can be difficult and upsetting at first. Perhaps go home Thursday-Sunday for a few weeks, then just do the weekend, then once fortnight, then once a month or a term etc and see how you feel. You're never going to learn to live properly if you go running back home every week.

I use to travel back home when I wanted to see my family - I was not homesick as such, I just liked the comfort of my hometown and it's surroundings. I use to go when I had enough (went from a small town and moved to city).
& I did not live too far from home when I moved away. I loved my independence, however, you can love your independence and still see your family often. If anything it makes you realise what's important in your life.

Compile pros/cons and weigh it out. Work/life balance. I would do a 50/50 at first then see how you feel. Aim to stay at your own place till Thursday at least.

BTW - get your moneys worth, if I moved away and it was far and I'm paying for it, I would make the most of it. This initial homesick feeling wears off. Give it time. Don't make it a permanent arrangement.

I do something similar, come home on Friday night and go back Sunday night. Sometimes when I have a lot of work I just stay, but I only live about an hr away so this might not be relevant to you.
