Recently my dad has been drinking quite heavily and also came home at 2am day before yesterday. My mom doesnt like this and my dad beats my mom when she tries to tell him to stop drinking and says that she doesnt trust him. They fought again today and they now want a divorce. I don't know what to do.

There's not a lot you can really do in practical terms. It sounds as though hoen life is a bit difficult, and maybe they will be happier separated. It doesn't mean you have to love them any less yourself, and it might make them nicer people to be with, even if that's individually. Be aware though, couple often talk about divorce for a long time before it happens, or resolve their differences and don't divorce.

Do you have anyone else in the family you can talk to, or teachers/tutors etc. Any school friends been through similar?

Just calm them down and try to make your dad understand why he shouldnt drink and how this damages the family and his overall health. This might sound crude but play both of them into your hands. Use any means such as emotions , etc. Usually if your dad does this he may be emotionally distressed try to discuss his problems with him and tell how bad it is to hit his wife in this manner. Tell him does he have any respect for his family/does he want to be a lowlife? you and your mother may also be causing the problem ie: not helping around the house, not getting good grades. Mabye you try to work things out as a family?

There are alot of organisations you can contact for help & advice, I also encourage you to (If your still in education) tell a member of staff as your welfare could also be put at risk as well as your mothers & you dad even for that matter, confide in a member of staff you feel comfortable doing so, I realise its probably difficult to talk to a teacher about this issue as its very personal but they will be able to direct you to the right places for some help. I urge you to confide in your closest friends also, they should be able to offer some support. If the situation gets out of control contact the police, the last thing you want to do is call the police on your parents but if the situation worsens its necessary.

Nothing you can do young Padawan. If divorce may happen, stop it you cannot.
