Hi, I am about the begin the second year of my MA in social work. I applied and received half of the loan in 2016/17. I have also received the first-semester payment for this year. I was entitled to the loan because I did not receive the bursary. However, this year after some people have withdrawn from the course I have been awarded the bursary.
As I understand that you cannot get both the loan and the bursary, I called as soon as I knew but was told it was too late to stop the payments and to call the repayments line when the bursary hit my bank account. I did this last week and was told that I may still be entitled to have the loan as at the time of application I was entitled and the application was for £10,000 it's just that it is split over the length of the course, and that this is a situation that has not been come across yet. The gentleman on the phone asked his manager and colleagues who also indicated that this may be the case, but he asked me to write a letter and await the response.
I am in the financial position whereby I would very much appreciate being able to keep this years loan, but at the moment it is sat in my bank account and I am frightened to use it. Could you help please?

    Hi CarrieMichelle,

After speaking to the processing department, they have advised that you will not be entitled to the £5000.00 for 17/18 as you are now receiving the bursary and advised that you will need to send in a letter advising this so that we can update your application.

    Thanks Katie
