I recently came back from my year abroad. Now that I'm back at my home university, I'm really struggling with loneliness as most of my friends have graduated. I'm going to societies and talking to people, but I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I have a lot of uni work to do too, so can't dedicate too much of my time to trying to make new friends but I'm not sure how bad I'll get if I don't.

Basically - any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar?

I had a similar experience whilst doing a masters as most of my friends didn't stay on. I found the loneliess gradually subsided after I got into a routine- getting up at the same time every day, taking myself off to the library for the same amount of time. With my coursemates we did occasionlly do stuff after classes like go for a coffee, do you think you could suggest that to coursemates? I also reconected with someone else in a similar boat to me & we met up. Remember though you don't need to make friends for life, just some company to tide you over for a few weeks for one year.

I have some friends here and I do suggest things with coursemates etc., but I think I just really miss having my close friends around and that's what I'm craving.

It's nice to know that it does get better, though! I'll try and stay positive :-) It's comforting that I'm not the only one who has gone/is going through this.
