My work experience is July 2018 and we have to have applied by Feb 2018. I am interested in marine biology/zoology and have applied to Bristol aquarium and zoo but I'm not confident they will give me a work placement. Any advice is helpful! Is it worth looking into retail and media jobs? If so which ones?

First of all phone them up. Sometimes when you apply to a place and they don't have work experience they don't bother letting you know. I'd recommend trying for a care home as well if you are interested.

Have you worked in a care home yourself? I’m not sure whether I would be up for that or whether it would be suited to my personality (not that I’m not caring or don’t like elderly, I prefer more educational things).

Yh I've had work experience in a care home. It wasn't my sort of environment either to be honest. I worked in the unit that dealt with the heavily disabled, with illnesses such as Parkinson's and Dementia. Sometimes it was alright, but other times it would be uncomfortable for me because some of the residents that had dementia would either become upset or throw a fit. So the atmosphere could turn really gloomy. But if you need the experience it's worth giving a couple of places a phone call. They are all different. Same for an educational experience, you could try phoning up a Primary school or even retail. Either that or go in there yourself. It helps if you know someone in that field, but trust me if you send an e-mail or anything else they generally never reply.

Thank you for your tip! As I first mentioned, i don’t need to have a definite placement until end of Feb 2018. I will give the aquarium and zoo a few days to respond and if no luck will contact a few other places, and also ring up the aquarium and zoo! I do have my primary school which I could fall back on as I know the people that work there and I’m sure they would be more than happy to offer me a placement, although I don’t plan on going into that field of work.
