Why am I still considered a migrant worker even though I've lived in the UK 6 years? Watch

    Hello,

Just a quick question regarding my migrant worker status. When I applied for student finance 2016/2017 (my first year of studying), I had not yet lived here 5 years. School year started in September and my 5 years of living here would be in the November. This I understand.

Why am I still considered a migrant worker student in my application for 2017/2018 and not transferred to being a 'regular student'? Is there a way of getting my status changed?

    Thanks for your help,

    Hi Emilie,

EU nationals applying for funding as a UK student require 5 years residence at the start of their course.

If you didn't have the required residency for the first day of the first academic year of your course then you would continue to be eligible under the Migrant Worker funding rules for the duration of your course.

Reaching the required 5 years after that first day doesn't change your eligibility.

    Regards,

    Stuart
