Is it worth it to practice Specimen Paper 2017 for maths exam just a day before the exam? What is Specimen Paper actually for?

The specemin paper is an example of what the exam will be like. For students who may be the first to do a new style of exam, or even a whole new module for example, there will be no past papers available because you are the first. So they will give a spec paper. But for most students we are doing courses that have been around for many years so we have a spec paper then like 20 past papers

If you've never done the spec paper before, obviously, it's worth having a look at what's on there but if you've already done it, you'd be better off practising questions. it doesn't matter which exam board coz the questions are essentially the same.
