    Imagine a bungee rope attached to the railing. Where would stress be the greatest at the top where it's attached or the centre of the rope where thinning occurs??? How does this relate to Stress= Force / Area or Hookes law??

    Stress would be greater at the centre. Since thinning occurs at the centre, its area is lower. Stress = force/area, so a lower area results in greater stress.
