I've been talking to a boy for about a month and, although we haven't said we like each other, he's made it very obvious that he does and has told a mutual friend. We are both 17 and I am female.
He has been texting me throughout the day almost every day from the start and has been very flirtatious at school. Last Friday was the last time he texted me first and since then I have started a few conversations but they haven't been as enthusiastic as they were before.
At school earlier on this week, he was a little distant, but he is now acting more friendly again - he flirts a little but not as much. I know he has been stressed at the moment with family and friends; I don't know the full story but when I asked how he was on Monday he said "awful," so I would think this would be why except he is a bit of a drama queen and he was having the same trouble whilst we were still texting. Basically, I'm not sure if I should be upfront and ask him about this or just wait it out because I do really like him and I hope his feelings haven't changed for me. We used to talk about his problems a lot and we were beginning to get quite close so this change in behaviour is strange.
Does this sound as though he is just too busy/stressed or is playing with my feelings/doesn't like me anymore? He's even stopped the 'good morning' texts and it's not like they take a lot of effort. I'm not sure if he is talking to his ex again or something but it seems he wants to at least be friends with me since he spends time with me still. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

One would think that there is another girl involved somewhere along the line.

Just ask him what's the matter, just for you own peace of mind.
