I wanted to do art GCSE but my mum pressured me into picking history as it's more respectable.
School didn't pressure me since I chose Triple science, Computing, History, and R.S. I enjoy and am fairly good at both sciences and humanities (though am slightly better at humanities, and have a slight preference for sciences).
I used to love learning French and got top grades in all papers but lost the morale required for studying the language in year 8 and 9 when they introduced sets and made top set do two languages with two teachers who were strict and unmerciful. This was because it was around the time I became pretty depressed and teachers were unforgiving for my lack of homework (no motivation means no work whatsoever). My grades for writing and speaking dipped as it meant memorising rubbish i didnt want to bother with, though I got full marks in listening and reading. So lowest marks in clads for half the course and highest marks for the other half. My class was the first in years where they didn't force top set languages to do GCSE language. Every year after me has had to. I like to think I played a huge role in that.
I was forced to do a PE GCSE and got moved to short course due to being bad at PE. Tgis is because of my school being a specialist sports college. Which was pretty damn annoying. I wanted to do triple science but it took up an option for my school .
I have 11 GCSEs and one short course GCSE, but plenty of kids have 12 GCSEs. As we also did Statistics in year 10.
Were you pressured into doing certain subjects for GCSE? Watch
