    We would suggest conceiving of candidates falling into one of three groups.

    1) Strong TSA: almost certain to be interviewed if predicted to achieve or already have achieved the entry requirement and if GCSEs (or equivalent) and references good.

    2) Marginal TSA: could still be interviewed if rest of the application strong & if places left over from group 1). Still need to be predicted to achieve the entry requirements and GCSEs and reference must also be strong.

    3) Less good TSA: selectors would need exceptional grounds to interview (eg extenuating circumstances render the TSA unreliable).

    A strong TSA varies from year to year, but it is generally a score above 65. In 2016, PPE applicants at Oxford with a score below 63.2 would not have been interviewed unless there were other circumstances that supported their application.

    You can completely prepare for it as there are plenty of practice papers online and the test format does not change from year to year.
