    Career wise how much math do civil engineers do? I've heard some people say a lot and some people say very little.

    It's going to depend on what field you are in ultimately.

    I worked in structural design for just over a year, and as part of that I did a decent amount of calculations to verify designs. The actual calculations themselves weren't very mathematically complex, although trying to set them up on more complex configurations, considering varying different failure modes, did make things more tricky.

    I actually studied mechanical engineering at university rather than civil & structural engineering. My structural experience was in the oil & gas industry (and with steel structures) rather than the construction industry - I think that the civil/construction industry pretty much requires a degree in civil & structural engineering for their structural roles.
