I have recently had a DSA assessment and the assessor has made a recommendation for me to be able to have overnight accommodation to reduce travel and fatigue (I live in Cornwall and have to drive to Bristol for uni each week). I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience and how the costs are paid? Do Studen Finance pay the costs to you in advance and then you book accomodation, or do you have to book and pay and then claim expenses back?

You have to pay yourself and then claim the money back. Keep any receipts you receive.

    As Tiger Rag said.

But when I was given a similar recommendation (SFE) refused it (I was given the recommendation that accommodation price differences between on-site, ensuite adapted accommodation and the normal, on site, no ensuite be paid for me by SFE). So they, SFE, may not accept the recommendation and it has been notoriously hard to get this recommendation approved.

Having said that, your university may be able to help out (as mine did) as you have been given this recommendation by the DSA needs assessor. My university called it a "non-standard award" in the hardship fund for years 2 and 3 (and in first year the Access to Learning fund - this is now defunct).
