I'm on track for A in maths, A in computer science, and A* in art. I'm aiming for a computing degree at a uni with entrance requirements AAA - will the A* be helpful even though it's in an 'irrelevant' subject?

Absolutely! If you've gone over the entry requirements, no matter what the subject, it still looks very good.

For an AAA course, not really.

    Yep
I got a offer from York and they said that my language A* which I received in 2017 will be part of my 2018 offer.
So I only have to get 2 A levels with A grades with them

That's different to OP's context. You already have a grade so of course you only need to do 2 A levels now.

No. I did A-Level Bio and managed to get into Edinburgh for CS&EE.
