If you do a year abroad studying in your third year, meaning your course becomes a 4 year programme does that mean that student finance won't give you a loan for a masters degree as they only allow a 4 year loan period?

Undergraduate student finance covers the length of your course (plus an extra year for restarts/resits).

Postgraduate funding isn't affected by undergraduate funding (although if you get an undergraduate masters degree you cannot get a postgraduate loan for a postgraduate masters).
