    Hi,
I have been given this for homework and I don't understand what it means. I would appreciate it if you would just simplify this question:
Think about the relationships between the characters in Act 1. How have the character's attitude towards each other changed since then. This is for An Inspector Calls btw

I'm going to guess from the question that you have been given that you have read the whole play. The question is just asking you to identify how the relationships between the characters are in Act 1 and how they change at the end.

So just write about the brother and sister relationship as well as Gerald's relationship to Sheila (engagement) and how at the end they are no longer together after she finds out that he cheated. You could also talk about the relationship between the parents and children.

If you need any more help just message me.

Eric and Geralds link would be that they both knew the dead girl. And that Gerald is from the upper class so he seems more like Mr and Mrs Birling rather than Eric and Sheila. Gerald seems to have loved the dead girl whereas Eric didn't. Gerald and Mrs Birling are linked that Mrs Birling still wants Sheila to marry him. She thinks that Gerald having Daisy as a mistress is disgusting.

In Act One, how do the characters behave towards each other, and how does this change throughout the play?

I'd maybe focus on Sheila and Eric, how they accept responsibility for Eva Smith's death, and what this does to their relationship with their parents. Pay attention to the technique of foreshadowing, and for context include how children were viewed and expected to behave in 1912 (specially young women).
