How bad is my mistake on my personal statement and should I thinking of a gap year?

It's utterly trivial and won't make any difference at all.
There really is no excuse for a typo on a personal statement. You had ample time to write and proof-read, but still didn't get it right. With that being said, it's possible that some unis would overlook it if, say, you emailed the departments individually with the corrected script. Also, there's a possibility that the admissions tutor won't notice the error, given that it is very minor and they will be reading lots of personal statements so won't be reading it too closely.
