I told 2 separate friends in confidence that I like a guy. I don't know why but these 2 separate friends both went up to him and asked if he liked me. Now, I know he does like me but he has told them he only likes me as a friend. He told me he is a very private person and so he would not tell acquaintances that he was interested in me.

I know I will need to find a time and speak to him directly to find out if he does like me. As for the 2 'friends' how should I behave now as I feel like I cannot trust them as they broke my confidence. I feel like their meddling has not helped the situation.

They probably just didn't understand the seriousness of your wish for it to be a secret. Romances are cute and exciting and they probably thought they were helping to set you up. You should talk to them and say how you feel, but do it without starting a fight.
