Graduate Scheme after JET programme and delayed start dates watch

    Hi guys,

Currently I'm a 3rd year on MEng Civil Engineering in the UK and really considering going out for a year to join JET. My worry is that after a year out on the programme would it ruin my chances of getting on to a graduate scheme or would it be seen as a plus?

My second question is that I have a job lined up for summer 2018 and many times people get offered grad scheme positions from these. Would it be considered rude to ask for the start date to be a year after my graduation if I went through with JET or would it be a flat refusal?

    Thanks for any advice.

The main challenge is you will be abroad when most of the recruitment processes will take place for a 2019 start. It’s not impossible, but just an extra hurdle to try and over come.

You can only ask about deferral. Some organisations will consider it if they have pretty much always recruited for the role you have got each year. Others will say it’s down to business demand and that they cannot guarantee a deferred place but they will put you on some form of waiting list. Others will say no. No harm is asking though.
