I'm going for an 'informal' interview at the Christie tomorrow, which is a hospital specialising in cancer treatment, for the role of a ward assistant volunteer.
I'm just wondering if anybody has any advice of how to answer questions such as 'why do you want to volunteer here' (I can think of so many different things to say and don't know what specifically to talk about) and what other kinds of questions might be asked. What are some good things to mention and what should be avoided? How can I prepare?

Also, does anybody have experience volunteering in a hospital ward? What kinds of things do you mostly do e.g. do you ever talk to patients or is it just a case of running errands/ doing very little at all?

I really really want to volunteer here- I already passed the first round with my application but I think there are a lot of people who will have applied.

Hey there, try and be confident 🙂 I’m sure you’ll be fine! Try and research the hospital and the trust- values/visions etc. Who do they normally see? Just be honest when answering why you want to volunteer there- but you could say stuff around wanting to help the community, get relevant skills/experience, make friends etc. They might ask you about what you know about the role and what previous experience you have. Be enthusiastic and friendly (which I’m sure you will be!). I’ve volunteered on a hospital ward before numerous times and had different experiences, you might talk to patients, run errands such as helping at mealtimes, playing games with the patients, admin duties etc. Good luck, you’ll do great I’m sure!
