    Oh what a sad day.

    After the people of that region and the rest of Iraqi Kurdistan voted for independence the army comes to take it over. All down to oilfields and favouring the minority of Arabs and Turkmen (as if Kurdistan isn't the most tolerant place in the Middle East).

    They've been persecuted for the last century and denied statehood, now no one is speaking up for them.

    Erdogan is about to close the Turkish border as well.

    Looks like a cynical move to let Iraqi forces cull a few Kurds whilst Turkey washes their hands.

    Turkey did the same when Sadam was in power. However this time Abadi will not want conflict and the most likely outcome is an independent Kurdistan, but only in the area defined in Iraq's constitution as autonomous.
