I'm sure we've all encountered the first world problem of not getting your first choice when it comes to a new e-mail address, a character's name or some form of handle/username. I'm also sure there are many, like myself, who HATE having numbers and symbols in such names/tags.

Some might say that I spend far too much time finding the right name for something, but it really makes a difference.

So it got me thinking about the horror of future generations failing to find a name/handle that relates to them that they also like; however then I thought about it on a personal level. Next month will be my 2 year anniversary with my partner and we've already talked a lot about having children. We've settled on first & middles names for for our first boy & girl and we haven't shown any sign of changing our mind for months.

If we're already set on our baby names, why not create an email address for them while the chances to get a good one are still above 0? I haven't gone and done it quite yet, but will soon enough.

Of course, new email services might be popular in 10 years, so going with gmail (my choice, I think it's great) could be fruitless, but hey, worth a try?

What do you guys think? Is it an effortless pursuit, a sign of planning too far ahead?
Your children might not want their actual names are email addresses so that's thinking too far ahead really.

You're not taking into consideration nicknames they may develop, which is a common theme for most email addresses.

Wow, 4 replies in and I'm already regretting making this thread based on your reactions. Thankfully I hadn't made the emails yet.

Clearly a bad idea, thank you for dissuading me.

Get your own domain, then you can have any email addresses that you want. You can still login to Google with an external email address.

Ok, I've said I've already been dissuaded. It was only a simple thought that happened while procrastinating. And I never said I worried more about the email than anything else, I've spoken at lengths with my partner about the other aspects of raising the kids.
