I have a 2.1 degree in Human Geography degree and I would like to work in accounting but I am not sure how. I am currently doing work experience in an accounting firm but apart from this and volunteering with local charities (very basic bookkeeping) I don't have any experience in the field.
I have read that the big 4 firms generally accept people with all varieties if degrees however I would prefer working in smaller firms, preferably in Ireland as I would like to be closer to home.

A good way is to apply for accountancy graduate schemes, which will normally accept graduates from a wide range of disciplines. These would mostly be the big companies, but it is a good way to fast track your career in accountancy and finance.
If you are looking for smaller companies, they would normally prefer some experience. Research companies in Ireland to see if they are hiring. They need to see you have a commitment to the field given that your degree was a different subject. Doing your work experience and volunteering is a step in the right direction.
You could also look at applying for finance entry level jobs and then working your way up?
