I'm in Y11, and I'm the only kid in my year who doesn't have a fancy iPhone. I don't even have a phone pfff. I'm always asking to borrow people's phones and they're always like, don't you have your own (insert extremely pitiful look here)? And it just makes me feel so ashamed bc my family can't afford all these fancy things for me that all my friends get. Don't get me wrong I love and appreciate my parents so much but why am I feeling so left out...

It’s feeling like you’re behind with everyone else, isolated if you will, I was in the exact same position as you, never had a phone throughout high school (I’m 18 now btw and thankfully I have one now) but my advice would be wait until you’re 16 and go get a part time job so that you can buy yourself one (it’s what I did).
Just don’t worry about it, and I’m sure they’re a lot more people that have been through the same situation as us

It sucks to be the odd one out- I get that. I got a *****y Samsung in year 10 that barely worked after having an even *****ier flip phone what never worked for 4 years. It sucked that I could never contact friends outside of school, but if you look at the other side of it, you aren't one of those basic *****es that lives on their phone and documents everything for the world to see, you live in the moment and don't rely on a phone, you can actually escape everyone so easily if you want, and you can have an actual conversation rather than texting someone. It's not all bad. I have been know to switch my phone off for a good week or more to escape everyone. It's my technology detox. Plus it's also proven that technology is more likely to cause stress, insomnia and mental health problems like anxiety and depression than if you weren't to use technology. Much love 😘
