I’m hoping to go to City, University of London to study Economics and Accounting, and I’m hoping to do a placement year.

However, I’m becoming increasingly concerned about the accommodation costs in London. I will be getting approximately £7500 a year in maintenance loans and I’m hoping to have around £8000 of my own savings going into it.

I think I’ll be able to manage first year in halls financially but I’m concerned about after that - moving into shared housing/rented accommodation - that I won’t be able to cover housing costs.

Does anyone have any experience/advice about the affordability of studying in London?

Unfortunately high accommodation costs come part and parcel with studying in London. Do make sure though that you aren't spending more than you need to - most house shares will be far cheaper than private halls for example. You might find you need to get a part time job to supplement your income, the good thing is that you aren't short of places looking for students for part time work in London.
