I am taking a year out to go travelling - I am off to India in 1 month. I graduated this year.

I have seen several grad schemes that seem perfect and ideal for me and what I want to do. Should I apply for them this year, bearing in mind I won't be in the country until July next year... or wait until next cycle? Then I would have to find work for a whole year while I applied and waited for the start date etc. and I would also be a lot older than most graduates. It would also have been 1 year since I graduated when I apply.

I just know some grad schemes have maths challenges and interviews which I wouldnt be able to attend since I will be out of country.

Will grad schemes look unfavourable on a "gap year"?

Look at the application process and check with the companies you are interested in. Some grad schemes just use online applications, online tests, and interviews. The final interview stage is usually done in person but if you explain your situation they might be ok with you interviewing over skype.

If their process involves an assessment centre then they probably won't consider you without you attending it. Would it be possible to fly back for an assessment centre? I attended one recently where an applicant had flown in from Spain and the company still covered the cost of the flights and a hotel.
