I am currently in the year of doing my GCSEs and am really interested in going on to study medicine at university. I definitely want to do Biology, Chemistry at A-level and highly considering Maths; but I was wondering if it is a good choice to do Art aswell. I really enjoy it and love doing it. I have heard that it helps in specific medical fields, but will it affect my chances of getting into Medical School?

informed choices from the Russell group - ESSENTIAL ADVANCED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS: If you do Chemistry, Biology and one from Mathematics or Physics you will keep all the medical schools open to you. If you do Chemistry and Biology you will keep open the vast majority. If you do Chemistry and one from Mathematics and Physics you will limit your range of choices much more. USEFUL ADVANCED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS: Further Mathematics or a contrasting (non-science) subject, Computing/Computer Science.

    Hi there!

Some medical schools make requirements for the third A-Level, however many don't specify which subject they prefer - so it depends where you apply! For example, Brighton and Sussex actually encourage a humanities/arts subject for their medicine applicants.

You can see a breakdown of which medical schools require which A-Levels on our What A-Levels do I need to be a doctor? page.

    Hope this helps!
