Going into first year next and have heard some pretty negative things about Bainfield, e.g the staff are rude, flats are small and one that I can agree with, despite not visiting there yet, it is overpriced. But at the same time, people seem to think it is worth it for the social experience. I know nobody at the uni, so I really need to socialise next year. So I pose the question: is it worth the 160 quid a week? Or should I look for a flat, or some other type of cheaper accommodation?

I had friends at Bainfield and they all said it was worth it. You won’t find anything a lot cheaper tbh. Even rent will be averaged out at £500. Edinburgh is a more expensive student city to live in and especially since you don’t know anyone. I would recommend bainfield. Flats aren’t that small for student accommodation, but it’s completely up to you. In first year majority of your friends are made with your accommodation people and since they’re your flat mates you’ll be inclined to socialise w them more. Up to you tho!

I’m at Napier but at the uni accommodation called Orwell. The kitchens are much bigger and the entire build is only 1/2 years old so basically new compared to bainfeild. Besides it’s lieterakly 1 minute away so the common room and friends from courses are so close still.

Sadly the website says it is only for undergraduates over 20, should consider it for 2nd year but. Cheers.

Binfield is for younger students.

This was 3 years ago and I did end up going to Bainfield and loving it actually despite the cons. But I was 19 when I went. I think I was talking about how Orwell Terrace was for older students but.
