Projectile motion where acceleration and distance are both 10 watch

1. Drop an object 10 meters above the ground, where g = 10. How long will it take to reach the ground?

Using common sense the answer is 1 second. But using suvat you get root 2.

The object accelerates to reach a speed of 10m/s and only travels at that speed after one second has elapsed.

In other words the accelerating object does not start at 10m/s nor stays at that velocity for 1 whole second. The velocity is constantly changing while undergoing acceleration.

It starts from a standstill. i.e. at t=0, v=0; at t=1s, v=10m/s; at t=2s, v=20m/s etc.

Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes.
