I am thinking of doing an EPQ on how food affects health. Was considering doing a questionnaire for parents of children of certain ages on what they eat and whether they have any health issues etc then producing charts to indicate the findings and any correlations. Would this be a good idea? Is the scope wide enough or sensible enough? I haven't spoken to school about this and was wondering if I could do it privately? I know it is possible to do cyber EPQ privately. Any pitfalls with this type of EPQ or EPQs in general would be appreciated. What are the closing dates for submissions? Thank you/

I'm doing an EPQ this year and it does sound like a good topic! You'll be getting good resources from doing your own research (like the questionnaire) but you also have to do other research such as books, websites, journals, etc to get the marks for that section.

What I would say is your title would need work however. You only have 5000 words to write this so you may want to make your topic a little more specific such as how food affects health in a specific age group. Your title needs to be evaluative but that doesn't mean it has to be a question if that makes things easier. (My working title is 'Assess the prospect of using bacterial and virus based therapies in future medical care'). As long as your can evaluate different aspects and come to a conclusion then you should be fine!

I was thinking of children at junior school age, say year 6, including their health background/illnesses etc, whether they were genetically related i.e. if the parents suffer from the same things, whether they are vaccinated etc so the results might come out quite complicated but would be able to see if food might impact their health. Would have to be a large number I think.
