    No. You do not have to go to university. Good A-levels in Maths, Physics and another 'enabler' subject like Geography or a humanities like English or a modern foreign language, will give you the option of both pilot training and keep a wide range of university courses open to you, should you decide not to pursue your career.

    The course fees for a commercial licence (excluding degree) can run to well in excess of £100K and even then, there is no guarantee of a job so it's high cost and high risk. Starting salary is also abysmal for the initial outlay and stays that way for at least the first ten to fifteen years.
