Hi, I'm currently in year 13 and I'm going to study Japanese at university (either at SOAS, Newcastle or Leeds).
I was wondering if there were any staple books that are essential to read (e.g. Popular or well known books), either about Japan or a Japanese novel that had been translated into English (unfortunately it has to be in English because I don't have any prior knowledge of Japanese)?

    I'd greatly appreciate any help!
