I’m looking to take architectural engineering (I take Maths and Physics) at university - would it be worth taking and paying for this course https://courses.edx.org/course_modes...+GSD1x+1T2017/ - if I don’t pay can I put it on my personal statement etc anyway?

Also what’s the best way to go about making a portfolio? Do I need one for applications? Online??

The link provided just goes to a sign-in page.

In your personal statement, you need to talk about what you gained from the course, and why it is relevant to your application. Paying for a certificate doesn't change your ability to do that.

Most MOOC courses are free, what you can decide to pay for is a certificate of completion. As above, talk about what you learned from the course.
