Does anybody know the history of the land that Aigburth Park student accommodation is built on?
And the history of the houses on the land - The Hermitage and The Cloisters ???

Take a look at A History Of The Royal & Ancient PARK OF TOXTETH.

I've just bought a copy from Waterstones website, there's also a couple of very good websites that explain it all...very interesting stuff.

The Cloisters, Hermitage, Glebelands, Carfax etc were all built off the Cazzy by John Cragg around the time he built St Michael's (the Mariner's Church). He was an ironmaster that had a foundry off Tithebarn St and he was dead religious, so all the houses have a gothic religious theme.

People always think that the ruins in Priory Woods are of a monastery too, but it was actually a mansion house.
